About the Artist

I grew up in a rural part of Southwest Colorado, where my deep respect and love of art was cultivated by my artist father. It was from him that I learned the life of a single line and how to use it to tell a story.

Throughout my artistic development, I’ve been influenced by artists such as Marc Folly, Andrew Wyeth, John Blockley, and others skilled at creating emotional environments and communicating the stories of the individual. I like to find the extraordinary in the ordinary and the magic in the commonplace, and I challenge the viewer to do the same. I create commentary on the human experience and the impact we have on the world around us.

I prefer to keep my artwork loose and do not stray too far from the nature and truth of my original sketch. My color palette reflects the natural world, and I avoid solid blocks of color or light, preferring, instead, to illustrate the multitude of colors found in a single area or surface. I find great pleasure in experimenting with the way paint runs and blends together. Each pigment acts and reacts differently, and I find these relationships just as interesting and important as the subject of the painting.

I earned a BA in Art History, with a minor in Theater Design, from Colorado State University, and an MLS, with a focus on archival science, from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I have worked as a scenic and lighting designer, librarian, archivist and curator of history collections, an artist and a mother. I currently reside in beautiful Los Alamos, New Mexico.
