I will always be drawn to street scenes. The inspiration for this limited palette piece came on a backpacking trip across Europe during my college years. I spent only one day in Munich while I waited for my next train. It was a cold and quiet Christmas Day, and there were only a few groups of shoppers still buying for the holiday.
As it happens, Odeonsplatz (or Heldenplatz), which is directly to the left, out of the picture frame, was a location where German soldiers swore allegiance to Hitler during 1935, a fact I learned upon my return to the U.S. and saw a historical photo of it in a book.
